🎙 Behind-The-Scenes with Carlos Terol

Founder of Good Ripple

Using the Ripple Effect as a way to amplify thousands of change-makers

I personally find Carlos' story and journey fascinating.

Originally from Spain (Canaries Island), Carlos found himself studying Civil Engineering thinking that he needed to be super specialised in one area.

To achieve goals like owning a fancy car and all sorts of materialistic goods.

After finishing his studies, he moved to the UK.

This is where he experienced a few tipping points that determined his future self.

Tipping points like taking a 40-minute flight to go to West Sahara to be in a different world.

Where he re-discovered some values that once resonated with him.

And re-evaluate who he was.

Which led him to explore more, and talk to different people across a span of 8 years.

Fast forward to 2022, he sat down to answer a very specific yet important question:

If you could do one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

To answer this powerful question, he took the time to disconnect digitally and reconnect with himself, using a pen and paper.

Thinking about his older self and realised that Good Ripple would make him the happiest.

More than his other projects and companies.

That’s where he found the answer - make the commitment to build Good Ripple.

A free community for change-makers around the world.

Something he struggled to find for 8 years.

So he decided to make it happen.

And put all his energy into it.

It started by making the commitment to start posting content on LinkedIn.

Become a creator instead of a consumer.

To test his idea with others.

And the ripple effect worked out. ✨

Today, more than 1,700 change-makers joined the Good Ripple community.

Ready to change the world, connect, collaborate and amplify their impact.

The journey started 11 months ago, with its dose of ups and downs.

Doubts happening every day and week.

Sometimes he even wondered if he should let go and get a “normal job”.

So what keeps Carlos going?

First, it's seeing all the amazing change-makers out there, getting so much value from Good Ripple.

Secondly, he's meditating on a daily basis, for at least 20 to 30 minutes. When he does not meditate, he can feel the difference in his state of mind.

Because meditation is what helps him be more grounded and understand that the emotions coming and going are momentary and don’t define him.

Finally, he knows that he’s doing the best he can at the moment. When finding himself doubting, he asks himself the whys and becomes more self-conscious.

But not only.

Because Carlos developed over the years a routine that helps his body, mind and soul.

This routine includes doing yoga, meditation and breathwork to help him reconnect with himself.

Meditation to:

  1. Be more mindful and heartful.

  2. Be more present.

  3. Be more distant with his mind.

In order to react differently to the different triggers that he can encounter during the day.

That distance helps him during the whole day. Because the benefits of 20 minutes of meditation spread towards the day.

Breathwork to:

  1. Breathe with his diaphragm and train that muscle.

  2. Reconnect with the real balance in the body and make his system more efficient

  3. Control the parasympathetic nervous system to make himself more relaxed

Yoga to:

  1. Be more aware of his whole body, especially when working in front of a computer

  2. Have a better posture towards the day

This routine is essentially to find a balance between his body, mind and soul.

How to deal with the days when you feel low in energy and navigate through the challenging moments

When it happens, Carlos has two ways of dealing with it:

  1. Either he’s aware of it - and goes earlier to sleep to reset knowing that tomorrow will be a new day. He’s okay with the fact that he does not feel that way at the moment, without trying to fight with himself to feel better.

  2. If he’s not aware, he can become quite irritable. Even if it does not happen often, it does happen. If someone is using negativity on you, he knows it’s on that person, so he feels compassion towards that person. Sometimes he tries to help that person, knowing that he / she might be going through a difficult time.

How to stay hopeful for the future and keep going

Carlos feels that there’s a growing movement of people becoming more aware. It’s about seeing and talking to all the change-makers, which gives him hope that we’re not alone.

So many people are working to make the world a better place and create change.

So many people are creating positive change.

Which is contagious.

As more and more people want to join the space to make a difference.

So we need to keep inspiring people and do more talking.

To empower more action.

And action starts with awareness.

Some reflections since Carlos started Good Ripple

  1. Getting to know what people are doing around the world can give you a lot of hope for the future.

  2. Spending too much time on growing the community organically and get more people. Now he understands that he wants to empower more people to co-create the community with him, finding ambassadors and change-makers willing to co-create this movement with Carlos.

  3. Be more proactive in connecting people within the community to foster new connections.

What would you say to Carlos who is on Day 1 of Good Ripple

Just get started, just get going.

Key learnings from Carlos ✨

  1. “We are losing months and years because we can’t find a good hour.” It’s important to make time to pause and reflect.

  2. If you could do one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?” answering to this question can change the span of your life if you really take the time to think about this and feel how it resonates with you.

  3. Having a consistent routine that works for you to find a balance between your body, mind and soul.

  4. Meditation can help you reduce the extremes of the roller coaster ride that we can experience as an entrepreneur.

I just loved Carlos Terol wisdom and open sharing during this conversation.
